Seville Snapshots: Verano de San Miguel

The streets hummed – literally, I mean: on one end of San Jacinto, a religious procession was led by a brass band playing melancholical music while a cover band rocked the steps at Capote. We could barely skirt around the throngs of people enjoying the early evening breeze near the Guadalquivir during Seville’s Golden Hour, though I was enamored with the colors and the sky (I have not touched this photo, save to put a border and a water mark!)

This is what the Spaniards call Verano de San Miguel: coinciding with the feast day of San Miguel, the summer makes one more valiant push before the days in Seville turn crisp and cool. Just when I thought I could sleep soundly at night, we were surprised by a heat wave and had to turn on the air again. But there are vegetable cream soups and comfy sweaters to look forward to (and hopefully some rain so that I can stop washing my car every damn week!).

Are you looking forward to welcoming fall? I’m already longing for next summer – the World Cup, a trip home and fried sardines!

  1. Yep! Definitely looking forward to fall and not waking up sweating EVERY DAMN DAY. Ugh, it’s still highs in the upper 80s here and no air conditioning and una casa caliente, so I hate life. 😉

Totally agreed on the waking up not gross part, though I put on the air because I pay the bill and thus take financial responsibility of that decision! It’s going to be 36 today, and we died at the Betis game yesterday – SO HOT!

  2. I thought I could avoid the heat in September. I headed north before it turns cold but it has been quite uncomfortable. The day may start out a bit chilly but my late morning it is just warm and muggy. If you put on a rain jacket, you will soon feel too warm. I can’t figure out how to dress. Next time I will have to travel in October.

Yes, it’s a weird mood during this time of the year in many parts of Spain. Perhaps your October plan will mean boots and sweaters!

  3. Beautiful shot :)
Today was full-on Summer in north east England. For a day! Autumn again tomorrow.

Thank you, Jo! I’m about to go to Germany for the weekend and am afraid of what cold weather must be awaiting…

  4. That is SO pretty! It looks like something out of a fairytale.

I’m with you on already being ready for next summer. I hate the cold. I was so sad when I saw the rebajas leave the shops and the fall fashions come in. Cheers to summer!

Thanks, lady! It was the right moment, and my camera happened to be set the right way. Serendipitous, for sure!

  5. I hate winter so no-not looking forward to fall! People who wax poetic about crisp, cool days, chunky sweaters, apple picking, the leaves changing colors, wearing leggings etc. make me roll my eyes. (I swear I’ve seen the same status from people who love fall about 20 times since September started! I almost want BuzzFeed to do an article about it “The same 15 things people say they love about fall and why they sound so ridiculous”) I enjoy some of those things, but I do not like the cold weather associated with it.
